Stand-Up Auditions!

Hello again boys and grills!

Today I have a very special announcement for everyone. Remember in that last email I sent out there was that little thing about exciting stuff that might be coming up soon?
Well, guess what? One of those things has indeed come up!!!

It's time, yet again, for our super-ultra-cool-potentially-annual-STAND-UP-COMEDY-SHOWCASE!!!

This showcase is organized by our very own Mollie Sperduto, and was extremely successful last year, when several first-timers and experienced comedians alike had a chance to make people laugh in the Red Lion Cafe. This year we invite you all to audition for a second round of awesome CAP talent smacking around the malleable minds of the unsuspecting student body of Rutgers. Even if you have never tried stand-up comedy before ever in your life, if you barely know what CAP is, or if you think everyone on the board smells, you really should still come try out! No one is turned away for being awkward, stupid, or inexperienced, just pompous. But even then we respond well to bribes, especially if chocolate donuts are involved.

So, if you think you've got what it takes (or if you're pretty much sure you suck but like to make people suffer) then spend your Thanksgiving break rejuvenating while OD-ing on all that schmexy tryptophan, and gleaning good material from your awkward parental interactions. Be ready for AUDITIONS:
Monday, November 27
9:30 PM
Scott Hall 123

(yes, that's right, room 123)

Please to prepare about five minutes of material to show off for the pretty red-head in the front row (Mollie, the one who'll be judging you).

If cast, the run-through will be on Monday, 12/3 at 9:30 PM.
The show itself will be on Thursday, December 6th, so be sure to clear those dates in your calendars!

If you have any further questions, please direct them to Miss Mollie at mollie.sperduto@collegeaveplayers.com.

Have a lovely turkey time everyone, and see you at auditions!
Em :-)

Whoops!

Sorry everyone, but I totally left something out!

8. UCB VISITS RUTGERS
RUPA sent us a little note letting us know that the Upright Citizens Brigade Touring Company is going to be visiting Rutgers this Sunday, and they thought people in CAP would like to know about it. If you want to go check it out, the performance is FREE and it will be on Sunday, November 18th in the Busch Campus Center MPR at 8:00 PM.

This is the story of a 4-year-old girl, Lucy (played by Lauren Seyler) and her unconventional invisible friend, Mr. Marmalade (played by Dave Rothstadt). Written by Noah Haidle and directed by Holly Gore and Jeff Kowalski, this unique play is a savage black comedy about what it takes to grow up in these difficult times.

Performances are this Friday and Saturday (November 16 and 17) at 8:00 PM in Scott Hall 135. Tickets are just $5.00 for students!

2. PENNIES FOR PAULA
Closing night of Mr. Marmalade marks the highly anticipated second CAP charity auction of the season! This time around, proceeds go to support Jeff Kowalski's former science teacher, Mrs. Paula Milano. A 28-year-old mother of two very young girls, Mrs. Milano was recently diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. She is currently undergoing treatment at the University of Pennsylvania. Her medical expenses will be astronomical and we'd like to help her out. Donate your spare pocket change at the ticket desk, buy a T-shirt, or stick around after the show to bid on the following items (don't forget - your donations are tax deductible!):
  • Two tickets (reserved seating) to the date of your choice to see our next upcoming production, Reefer Madness!
  • The beautiful, creative, and ultra-realistic felt-and-pipe-cleaner plant costumes worn by actual actors in the play!
  • The kickball from the show signed by all the members of the cast of Mr. Marmalade!
  • Your picture taken with the cast (to be delivered to you later in the form of a beautiful, professional-looking, framed, 8x10 glossy print)!
We will be selling our brand new T-shirts at the show for $15.00, and donating 40% of that money to the cause as well.

CAPricious CAPtion 1.1

Hello everyone, and welcome to
The CAPricious CAP CAPtion!

I bet your inbox was getting lonely without the usually bountiful array of emails from yours truly. Well, fear not, because I'm trying this crazy new experiment called a newsletter!!! I spent many a weary minute pouring over Thesaurus.com to come up with a clever name, and as you can tell, I semi-succeeded! Although I ended up going through so many synonyms of synonyms that I'm not sure it means much of anything anymore, but at least it still says CAP in it a lot of times, which is what makes it sound official, right? Anyway, the point is, I doubt I will have the frequent inflow of information, or necessary attention span to send out newsletters on a regular basis - however, I will try my best to send them out somewhat frequently, if not on a set schedule.

With that said, let's get down to the fun stuff!!! I have some very exciting announcements for all of you!

  1. CHARITY AUCTIONS
  2. MR. MARMALADE
  3. HELP OUT WITH REEFER MADNESS
  4. SUBMIT A PLAY TO CAP

1. CHARITY AUCTIONS
First of all, the CAP board would like to thank everybody who came out to support or trial Charity Auction. It was extremely successful! Thanks to you all, our faithful patrons, we managed to raise over $2,000 to donate to Child's Play, an organization that donates games to sick children on extended stays in hospitals. Donating to charity in this way benefits you, too, because you get to see a really awesome show, laugh at some ridiculous people on stage, and get some pretty exciting prizes! Because everything went so well, plans are under way for another auction to be held on the closing night of our upcoming production, Mr. Marmalade. Keep your eyes and ears open for more details on that, coming up! And remember, charitable donations are tax deductable (!!!) so there's really no excuse for not coming out to laugh and help people!

2. MR. MARMALADE
Speaking of our next production, come see it! Mr. Marmalade, a play by Noah Haidle is opening THIS WEEKEND!!! Directed by Holly Gore and Jeff Kowalski, this laugh-out-loud biting social satire will be sure to make you very uncomfortable, and highly entertained. Lucy is a four year old girl with a very active imagination. Unfortunately, her imaginary friend Mr. Marmalade doesn't have much time for her. Not to mention he beats up his personal assistant, has a cocaine addiction, and a penchant for pornography. Larry, her only real friend, is the youngest suicide attempt in the history of New Jersey. Mr. Marmalade is a savage black comedy about what it takes to grow up in these difficult times. So not only is it a is a serio-comic exploration of the prevalence of dysfunctional family situations and how very young children process their own traumas through observations fed by what they witness in their surroundings and on television, but comedic too!

Friday, November 9th @ 8:00pm
Saturday, November 10th @ 8:00pm
Friday, November 16th @ 8:00pm

3. HELP OUT WITH REEFER MADNESS
Reefer Madness is looking for people interested in helping out in the following areas:
  • Scenic Art (inking and cutting out pieces of foam-core that have already been sketched on)
  • Props and Set (procuring, and being reimbursed for, items on a long list including things like chopsticks and a bloody heart)
  • Costumes (designing, building, and buying costumes such as teenage zombies and FDR)
We need lots of help in all these areas! The time commitment is very flexible since you don't need to attend rehearsals, but you do need to get a lot of it done on your own time. If you have questions, or if you can help out, please email me (Emma) at emma.waldron@collegeaveplayers.com.

4. SUBMIT A PLAY TO CAP
The time has come, the walrus said, to start accepting play proposals for the Spring semester! Do you think our Fall lineup sucked and are sure you could do better? Do you think it rocked and are sure you could do better? Are you hankering to try something new and exciting and artistically enticing? Are you bored and have nothing better to do? Then submit your play to CAP for the Spring '08 lineup! If you are interested in directing, but don't have a show in mind, you can still (and are highly encouraged to) simply submit yourself as a director for whatever lonely little project shows up. We need you! We want you! The deadline for submissions is December 1, 2007 so please start sending them off to our Literary Advisor, Jon, at jon.bershad@collegeaveplayers.com. If you are still dumbfounded, please check out the Submissions section of our website for a long and wordy description of everything we're looking for.

And with that, friends, I bid you all adieu! I hope to see you at some of our upcoming events, and best of luck with the rest of your semesters!
Much love,
The Em-Monster
